Carousel Ride Operator Accused Of Inappropriately Touching Child At Smith Haven Mall

An operator of the carousel ride at the Smith Haven Mall has been arrested for allegedly inappropriately touching a 7-year-old girl, police said.

Louis Shelton, 50, of King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, was arrested this week and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, Suffolk County police announced on Thursday, June 6.

According to police, the child was riding on the carousel at the Dreamland Amusements carnival at the mall at approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5,  when she was allegedly touched by Shelton.

Shelton is facing charges of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. He is scheduled to be arraigned at the Central Islip Courthouse on Thursday.

The investigation into Shelton is ongoing. Anyone with information or who believes they may have been targeted or a victim of Shelton has been asked to call investigators at the Suffolk County Police Department Special Victim’s Section by calling (631) 852-6184.
